Meet Dr. Mark Greenstein, A Skilled General Dentist Who Deeply Cares for His Patients

When you visit the dentist - whether it is for a routine cleaning or a more complex procedure - you want to be greeted by a friendly face. And when you visit us at Dr. Mark Greenstein & Associates in Clinton, MD, that is exactly what you will see!

Dr. Greenstein has been in practice at this location since 1988. He has worked with the same dental assistant for 23 years, and his hygienists have been here for 23 and 17 years, respectively. He always says that thanks to our history together, we have a great rapport, and our friendly, relaxed demeanor helps to set patients at ease.

We Consider Our Patients Family

Not only do we feel that we are part of an office family; we feel like our patients are members of that family, too. Dr. Greenstein chose dentistry as a profession because he truly loves working with people, helping to restore their health and end their pain. For him, some of the most rewarding moments of the job are when people come to him in severe pain, and he can immediately ease their discomfort. He also loves being able to transform patients’ smiles with temporary crowns in just twenty minutes. Their boost of self-confidence is nearly as rewarding for Dr. Greenstein as it is for the patients themselves.

With family, you feel comfortable enough to joke around and share your true personality. Dr. Greenstein feels that way with his patients and his team members. He loves to make his patients laugh, telling them that he has “a charming personality and good looks.”

Education and Affiliations

Dr. Greenstein attended the State University of New York at Stony Brook before attending dental school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He graduated with honors in 1986 and joined the current practice as a partner in 1988, where he has been in practice ever since.

Dr. Greenstein is a member of the:

  1. American Dental Association
  2. Southern Maryland Dental Society
  3. Maryland State Dental Association

Emergency Dentistry

Dr. Greenstein and his team offer same-day emergency dental care in Clinton for new and established patients. He also provides after-hours treatment to existing patients. And, proving how much he considers his patients to be family, the after-hours emergency number calls his personal cell phone!

Making Treatment as Easy as Possible

Patients who need more extensive treatments can enjoy convenient treatment all under one roof. Root canals are performed upstairs at an endodontic practice. For patients who need dental implants, Dr. Greenstein brings an oral surgeon to our office. Then he will fabricate and place the implant-supported restorations himself. He can also bring in an oral surgeon for surgical extractions.

Patient Education

As part of his commitment to comfortable, family-oriented care, Dr. Greenstein is committed to patient education. Not only does he explain all recommended treatments in advance, but he also offers guidance in improved oral care at home. For instance, he loves to share his favorite piece of dental advice: Floss first, before brushing!

The Link between Oral and Physical Health

One reason that Dr. Greenstein is so passionate about patient education is because of the integral connection between oral and bodily health. Gum disease is one of the most common chronic diseases in the country, affecting almost half of all adults over age 30. It can lead to oral pain, bleeding, and even tooth loss.

But gum disease, or periodontitis, can have even more serious consequences. Periodontitis has been linked to an increased risk for cardiovascular disease. In fact, studies show that patients with gum disease are two to three times more likely to suffer from a heart attack or stroke.

Moreover, rampant gum disease can make it difficult for diabetic patients to control their blood sugar. Pregnant women with gum disease could suffer pregnancy complications, including premature delivery and low birth weight. And initial studies show a link between gum disease and other conditions, including respiratory disease, kidney cancer, blood cancers, pancreatic cancer, and worsening Alzheimer’s disease.

Fortunately, good oral care can dramatically reduce the risk of periodontitis. Daily brushing and flossing and biannual dental visits are essential. A healthy diet and drinking plenty of water will also help. If you do develop periodontitis, early action can keep it from growing worse and protect overall health. Scaling and planing remove oral bacteria, as well as the rough spots on tooth roots, where bacteria can accumulate.

About Our Office

Dr. Greenstein’s office is in an easy-to-find professional building, visible from Route 5. To help you feel comfortable and relaxed, we offer a TV in the waiting area, WiFi, neck pillows, and blankets (washed onsite after each use).

Technology

We are proud to use the latest technology, allowing for easier treatment and more accurate diagnoses. Our office is outfitted with scannable plate X-rays. In contrast to traditional X-rays, these images appear almost instantly with no need for time-consuming film development.

We also use ultrasonic scalers, rather than standard manual instruments, to treat gum disease. A small, handheld device emits sound waves to remove bacteria and smooth tooth roots. This makes treatment much more comfortable and reduces swelling and other unpleasant aftereffects.

Insurance

We accept PPO insurance from many major providers, including:

  1. Aetna
  2. GEHA
  3. Delta
  4. Signa
  5. BlueCross Blue Shield
  6. Care First
  7. Military plans

Our office staff will file your claim for you and answer any questions you may have about insurance and financing.
